Unless you are some unicorn mama with a perfect angel baby who sleeps through the night, dark circles and unwanted puffiness simply come with motherhood. Pure exhaustion shows, and while it’s pretty much inevitable, there is a secret weapon when it comes to fighting inflammation and waking up your skin. Enter: the ice roller.
Thanks to one of my favorite bloggers, The Skinny Confidential, I heard about the benefits of an ice roller and decided to finally give it a try when I had my son. I desperately wanted to get rid of my dark under-eyes and reduce puffiness after my many sleepless nights. Within a couple of weeks, I purchased the Esarora Stainless Steel Ice Roller and shoved that baby into the freezer. After my first use, my eyes were instantly de-puffed, my redness was gone and my face looked a little slimmer and more toned.
So why does this ice roller work? Think of the old-school “spoon-in-the-freezer” trick. The cold metal instantly cools and de-puffs your eyes. An ice roller does the same thing to your entire face and then some:
-It soothes inflammation
The coldness combined with the massage of the roller helps with lymphatic drainage—the source of that dreaded puffiness you get in the morning.
-It minimizes the appearance of blemishes
If you combatted random acne during your early postpartum days like me, then you’ll love the ice roller. Though it doesn’t get rid of acne, it does reduce the redness, making pimples much less noticeable.
-It provides an instant contour
Losing sight of your cheekbones? An ice roller reduces puffiness, restores overall tone and highlights the angles of your face.
-It minimizes pores
Ever hear of models running an ice cube over their face before applying makeup? An ice roller pretty much does the same thing. The coldness causes the pore to constrict, meaning that your makeup will go on way smoother.
-It may minimize the appearance of wrinkles
Though the jury is still out, it has been said that daily use may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
-It feels SO refreshing
Can we credit this to the necessity of self-care? If there’s anything that can get me out of bed in the morning, it’s a steaming cup of coffee and the thought of running this little guy all over my face. It feels so good and instantly wakes me up!
A couple of tips to remember:
-Always roll in upward motions
Much like the rest of the products in your skincare routine, you always want to run the ice roller up, not down, which can tug on the skin and possibly cause premature wrinkles.
-Sanitize your ice roller on a regular basis
If you are using your ice roller every day, much sure to cleanse it or pour rubbing alcohol on the stainless steel portion to prevent the spread of bacteria.
Happy rolling!
