Ever wonder how some moms always look like they have their life together? Cute outfit? Check. Hair and makeup done? Check. Child acting semi-behaved? Check! Though it may look like these women have “mastered” motherhood, they simply know the secret to looking and feeling good even when they’ve spent the morning fighting tears, changing diapers and combating a wild toddler. Read on to discover five easy tricks to help you look put together at all times.
- Get dressed every morning
It sounds SO cliche, but getting dressed in the morning is the key to feeling like a regular human being. If can swing it, wake up at least one hour early and get dressed while drinking a cup of coffee. When it comes to picking the right outfits, opt for pieces that are comfortable and flattering. This means throwing out those raggedy, super-baggy sweats and stocking your closet with comfy but cute jeans, flattering leggings (splurge on 1-2 pairs of Lulu Lemon Align leggings if you can—so worth it!), casual tops, fitted athletic jackets or 2-piece sets, and a couple of pairs of trendy sneakers.
- Master a 5-minute makeup routine
Think you have zero time to devote to putting makeup on? Think again! Every woman has five minutes that she can use to throw on a little a CC cream with SPF, some concealer, brow powder, bronzer and mascara. You’ll feel fresh and ready for the day without spending a lot of time getting ready.
- Always keep a bag ready
Whether you’re in the midst of your diaper bag days or you usually just stash a couple of diapers and toys in your purse, make sure your daily bag is clean (this means free of old receipts, snack crumbs and extra toys) and always ready to go by the door. One night a week take the time to clean out your bag, then check it each night to see if anything needs to be restocked. Also, keep a bag of extra clothes, trash bags, diapers, wipes and snacks in your car in case of an emergency. By having your bag ready to go, you’ll always be equipped for whatever craziness comes your way.
- Find some way to move every day
Being a SAHM can feel like Groundhog Day. Get those feel-good endorphins flowing by exercising at least once a day. Ideally, squeezing in an AM work out before your little ones wake up would be the easiest option, but if you find that your day is jam-packed, try taking a walk or holding a dance party with your kiddo in your living room.
- Remember every mom is going through the same thing
Running yourself ragged WILL show; instead, allow yourself to feel stressed or upset for a moment, then take a breather, put your kid in a crib or playpen for five minutes and give yourself a chance to recharge. Or, throw your kid in the car and go for a drive, put on some music or go take your little one out for an ice cream. Anything you can do to elminate that stressed energy will help you look and feel better!
